Jan Van Gent

The 15×5 meter Shpountz 44-40 traditional gaff-rigged schooner Jan Van Gent is a truly exceptional vessel, unique to the west coast of North America.  Designed by Daniel Bombigher and built by the Societe Construction Mechaniques yard in Cherbourg, France she is designed for blue water sailing anywhere on the globe.  She is one of a reported 45 built and can deliver a good turn of speed from 8 to 12 knots under full sail.

The Shpountz 44-40 is built in the modern cold molded monoblock construction technique incorporating laminated oak frames, strip planked Oregon white pine, with three outer layers of mahogany and west African Iroko.  This makes for a strong but relatively light weight structure that is not only gorgeous to look at but very easy to maintain.  And she has been maintained to the highest standards with all-new teak decking in 2009 and refit in 2015  Winter covered, she shows very well.

For the past three years this pristine sailing vessel has been owned an maintained by a society of explorers, scientists and artists wanting to travel the Pacific Northwest.  Based out of Cortes Island BC the society is now relocating their base of operations to Italy, necessitating the sale.  Prior to this, the JVG completed a five year circumnavigation of the globe.  It is now time for new owners to take her to more exciting places.  Easily sailed by a crew of just two the long spaced-out sail plan and ship’s systems make her a joy to handle.

This vessel comes fully equipped for comfort and performance.  Accommodation is enough for three couples or a family.  If you are looking for a classic head turner wherever you travel, this is the yacht for you.  The Jan Van Gent would also make a unique charter or liveaboard experience.  Please arrange appointment for showing.
